Passage: John 15 : 1 - 10
References : Hebrews 12: 5 - 6.
We've seen the importance of abiding in Christ, and as shown it is a Christian's heart beat. The next step is to know HOW TO ABIDE in Christ: We can abide in Christ:
1) By Allowing God to have His way:
verse 2 of the passage says that God prunes every branch that bears fruit so it can keep bearing fruits. The greek word for prunes also means to clean. So what Jesus is saying here is that occasionally God cleans us so we can better perform our duty as christians. However if we do not allow Him, then we will gradually get disconnected from the vine (Jesus).
So how do we allow God have His way in our lives? We allow God have His way when we heed to His corection, discipline, and then repent. The bible says in Hebrews 12: 5 - 6 that "...we should not make light of the Lord's discipline, and we should not lose heart when He rebukes us, because the Lord discipline those he loves and He punishes everyone He accepts as a son." This shows that when God prunes us we continue to bear fruits, and when he rebukes, disciplines or punishes us, it is because he loves us and accepts us as children.
How lovely is it to know that everything our heavenly father does is to build us. Why struggle with God when He is moving in our lives. Sometimes He asks us to let go of somethings, but that's hard to do because it's become a part of our lives. If we keep it in mind that everything is to build us, then we will feel better giving God what He asks.
Sometimes we also think that if I give God this amount of time or money, I won't be able to provide enough for my family, study for my courses, or do the things that I really love. In short no time for myself. Reality is christianity is not bread and butter like a friend of mine says. We need to get ready and understand that we will face challenges. May we be blessed as we let God take full control of our lives, becuase this way we will truly be Abiding in Him.
Stay blessed
